A message from the Year 7 English Department

What a crazy year it has been! From meeting our new group of Year 7s in February to now, we have accomplished many great things.

Term 1 saw us adjusting to life in secondary school. It was a challenging transition for some, but our Year 7 cohort flourished in their new environment. In Term 1 they tackled persuasive writing techniques and produced both written and oral speeches. Term 2 saw us delve into the world of Text Response essays, another challenge. We built on these skills throughout Term 3 and Term 4 and students are now prepared to tackle the new challenges Year 8 has to offer. In Term 3, students looked at short story writing and poetry, both analytically and creatively. They wrote their own short stories and poems and conducted in depth analyses on the works of others. Term 4 allowed for a creative response to an environmental issue. Students looked at environmental campaigns that desperately need our attention and came up with creative ways to help stop these issues progressing.

Undoubtedly, we have covered a wide range of persuasive, creative and analytical studies this year. We have practiced our written and verbal skills and built amazing relationships in the process.

Congratulations to you all for surviving your first year in high school, and good luck moving forward to Year 8 in 2019!
